Why?

A correction of the chin is a fairly simple operation enabling the face to be remodelled. It represents the solution of choice for people with an insufficient or weak chin. A chin implant can also camouflage a big nose.

Chin surgery can therefore be associated with a rhinoplasty (correction of the nose), a neck lift or a facelift, for a harmonious result.

The Intervention

Chin surgery takes about an hour and is performed under general anaesthesia.

The incision is made under the chin or in the mouth. The surgeon positions the chin implant (a silicone prosthesis) under the muscles of the chin and the periostium of the jaw. Then, he sutures the incision.

The incision in the mouth has the advantage of not leaving a scar, but there is a higher risk of infection.

Post-Operative Treatment

The patient can return home immediately after the operation.

Some swellings and contusions can appear, which will completely disappear after a fortnight. A external compress should be applied for two days.

The stitches are removed four to seven days after the intervention; social activity can be resumed after a week.
